Beach Break

Take a break and catch a few waves at Camden Haven’s best surf spots

Whether you’re a surfer, bodyboarder, stand-up paddle boarder, sunseeker or nature lover our list showcases our beautiful shorelines that promise a perfect day on the coast.

From unspoilt sands to vibrant breakwalls and coastal walks, these beaches offer diverse experiences for every taste. Dive into crystal-clear waters, soak up the sun, or explore hidden rock pools along the way.

Our hidden treasures await you.

Lake Cathie

Starting at the northern end of Camden Haven region, Lake Cathie (pronounced Cat-eye by the locals) is a unique location where the quiet Cathie Creek meets the Pacific Ocean.

The lake is an ideal place for casual swimming, kayak paddling, and stand-up paddle boarding.

When the lake is open, you may find occasional waves at the mouth of the opening, however being an open beach, it is very exposed to northerly and southerly winds.

Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club patrols Lake Cathie Beach during school holiday periods, parking for the beach is on Bundella Avenue.

Middle Rock

Heading south, Middle Rock has earned its name as an outcrop of rock halfway between Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills and is a favourite surf break even on the smallest of days.

The soft dark-brown rocks, formed by a mix of sand grains and organic matter, create rock pools to explore along our shoreline.

There is a small picnic area near the car park with a viewing platform for ocean views and sunrises and stair access to Middle Rock Beach.

Middle Rock is affected by both the northerly and southerly winds so it is typically at its best when it’s blowing offshore. Please note this beach is not patrolled.

Rainbow Beach

As we continue heading south, Rainbow Beach (Bonny Hills Beach) is a great family-friendly beach that is well protected from southerly winds.

It includes a point break as well as numerous beach breaks for a range of surfing abilities.

The beach is home to Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club which began operations in 1958 around at “Little Beach” – Bartletts Beach, just to the south of our current location.

You will also find ‘Beaches at Bonny Hills’ a venue that hosts Weddings, Celebrations, Corporate Events, Social Events & Community Events and is open to the public every Friday night for drinks from 5pm-9pm.

North Haven

North Haven is another great family-friendly beach that is well-protected from southerly winds. It includes a breakwall break and beach breaks to enhance your surfing ability.

North Haven Surf Life Saving Club patrols North Haven Beach during warmer summer months and school holiday periods.

North Haven Beach marks the beginning of the ‘Beach 2 Beach’ shared path community project of a shared footpath/cycle path, that links North Haven, Laurieton, Dunbogan and Pilot Beach.

Stroll along the breakwall and keep an eye out for the fantastic marine life along the waterway.

If you plan to surf our local beaches, always remember to respect the Surfers Code, respect the line-up and personal levels of ability, and respect those who came before us.
