Fishing in the Camden Haven

We have been doing a little research in to fishing in the Camden Haven, with so many water ways, lakes and beaches, the choice to drop a line in is endless.

After speaking to the people in the know…the locals, we have come up with a few suggestions to get you started and enjoying a great day out fishing in the Camden Haven.

Meet Ben

Ben is a local from Lake Cathie who has been fishing the region for the past three years.

What he loves the most about fishing in the Camden Haven, is being able to ‘kick back’, relax, enjoy the environment and catch fish.

Ben loves to catch, and then immediately releases 95% of what he catches.

Lake Cathie

One of Ben’s favourite spots when the Lake is open is off the bridge at Lake Cathie.

Top tip – make sure you check the tides and the phase of the moon to head out at the right times.

The best time to fish off the bridge is at the change of the tide, that two-hour window when it sits still and the bait fish come in to the lake.

Why, because the bigger fish follow the bait fish.

Two other locations to check out is the lake itself where you will find Flathead, Bream and Blackfish.

Ben and a friend recently caught a Megalodon Eel, it was huge and was immediately released back in to the lake.

Camden Haven

The Camden Haven is a great place for those who want to catch Bream, Flathead, Luderick and Whiting in the river.

Once again, keep an eye on the incoming tide, or rising tide, as it is considered one of the best fishing tide times.

If you are looking for the best place to go for bait and tackle, visit North Haven Bait and Tackle, and if you are over in Dunbogan, drop into the Dunbogan Boatshed.

Getting details on what bait and tackle has been interesting for Team Escape, there has been talk of prawns with many opting for soft plastics, the best spots and set ups are top secret.

Our advice; best to get outdoors and try it for yourself, or book into a local fishing charter.
