Home Our Local Lake Cathie

Lake Cathie

Alrighty folks, we’ve got a hidden paradise to share. Lake Cathie (pronounced ‘cat eye’, and why we have no idea…please let us know if you do) is just 12km from Port Macquarie. This idyllic holiday town has both lakeside and beachside covered.

The town is dotted with do-it-yourself barbeque and picnic spots next to the glistening waters of the lake that make you feel like a week passes in the blink of an eye.

You don’t have to go far to have fun in Lake Cathie. From fishing on the bridge, dodging the children who are jumping off, to kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.

Our Lake – Lake Cathie

The breathtaking saltwater lake is easily the star of the show. It is periodically open to the sea, however, provides shallow waters for all ages to lay in the water and soak up the sunshine.

Whether you are floating on an inflatable unicorn or chilling on the shore with a beverage of choice in your hand, this lake’s the place to be year-round. It’s like nature’s playground, and trust us, you’re going to want to play.

Water not your thing?

Don’t sweat it right next door is a new skatepark, food options, a park for the children and spots to sit and enjoy time passing slowly. Spend the whole day or even just an hour here and return home rested and recharged.

Head down to Middle Rock and walk the beach down to Bonny Hill’s, enjoy a coffee at the Bonny’s Beach Café and then walk back…a fantastic way to start the day, enjoy the day and to end the day…plus you won’t find large crowds here.

It’s all about the laid-back vibes and the endless options for epic family adventures.

Eat and Drink

Feeling peckish?

Lake Cathie has a host of cafes with menus with loads to choose from. Caramels is a local fave which is not too far from the local shopping complex where you find Woolworths, a post office, a chemist, beauty salons and more including a newly renovated popular tavern.

Don’t forget to venture to the northern headland of the lake, where a fantastic forest walk has been established. Here you’ll find a viewing platform that offers wonderful views of both the lake and the ocean.
