COMMUNITY PHOTO WITH SANTA BRINGS JOY AND SUPPORT TO LOCAL CHARITY
The festive spirit was on full display in Laurieton recently as Bower On Lake, in collaboration with the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce, hosted the annual Community Photo with Santa event. Just under two hundred dollars was raised, with all funds donated to Aussie Battlers – Pay It Forward Inc., a local organisation that works tirelessly to support people in need across the region.
The event began three years ago, founded by Laurieton business owner Susi Kurteff as a way to give back, spread joy and ensure families doing it tough could still enjoy the simple tradition of a Santa photo. Although Susi has since sold her business, the tradition lives on thanks to fellow business Bower On Lake proprietors and Laurieton locals, Amy Vandenhurk and Dan Fox. Amy, who also serves as Treasurer of the Chamber, continues Susi’s legacy with warmth and community spirit at the heart of the event.
A founding supporter of the initiative was local real estate agent and current Chamber President, Luke Hadfield, who has stept into the role of Santa each year.
While modest in size, the event has steadily grown since its inception. This year, Aussie Battlers was chosen as the beneficiary. The organisation does not receive government funding and relies entirely on volunteer support and community donations to continue furnishing homes and providing essential items for those facing hardship.
Children, families, adults and even pets joined in the festivities, enjoying a relaxed and welcoming opportunity to capture a special Christmas memory.
Luke said the event carries meaningful value for the wider community, particularly during a challenging year for many.
“This year, many local businesses have shared with me the pressures they are facing. When our businesses feel it, our community feels it too. That is why small but meaningful community activities like this matter. They remind us that we can still come together, support each other and spread some joy.”
He also acknowledged the efforts of the event hosts.
“We are very lucky to have passionate people like Amy and Dan in our community. They give their time when everyone is already busy, and that speaks volumes about their character and commitment. We are fortunate to have them as Chamber members and as a valued local business.”
Amy said continuing Susi’s original vision has become a meaningful tradition for Bower On Lake.
“We continued what Susi started back in 2023. After customer requests and with the help of Santa, we had a fun afternoon and were able to raise money for the wonderful local charity, Aussie Battlers.”
She said the chance to bring her passion for event styling into a community project adds to the magic of the day.
“With a background in styling events it’s nice to be able to give back and create a Christmas photo backdrop that feels special and supports the beautiful community that we live in.”
Amy added that the turnout this year showed how much the community values the event.
“We had a wonderful turnout for charity Santa photos this year. Children, families, cats and dogs all joined in, with every dollar raised going to Aussie Battlers.”
The Camden Haven community continues to show that small acts, shared moments and local generosity can make a real difference. The Chamber looks forward to seeing this tradition continue to grow and bring joy to families for many years to come.
